Music I want my children to listen to

Hurrah, it seems I am not going to languish in my musically deprived rut forever, Music I Want My Children to Listen To is becoming a regular feature. And I have evidence that it works!

Emergency on Planet Alexander

This week I intend to try out some Jamiroquai on them.  There's a lot going on in our house at the moment, and there have been lots of fraught moments.  I reckon a bit of Jamiroquai will mellow us out.  I was obsessed with Jay Kay as a teenager.  My mum asked for Jamiroquai CDS when I left for Uni to remember me by.  I just need to hear the opening bars of Space Cowboy or Emergency on Planet Earth and I my mood is transformed and transfixed.  "Everything is good" (well actually it's really not, but it can be for 4.01mins).

Also Jamiroquai links on nicely from one of my choices last week, the father of Acid Jazz, Gil Scott Heron who was a real hit with my two last week. I thought a follow up of them in action was in order. So here is the mini Gil Scott Heron fan club doing their interpretative dance version of Hello Sunday, Hello Road.

Apologies for the sudden end. You have to quit while you are ahead with this age group sometimes.

What you waiting for, get singing and dancing and blog about it!  Lovely Becky at Hazel and Blue is hosting it this week, so go on over and link up your fab ideas for music to inspire children.

Ah, I love you even more now! I love Jamiroquoi so I was delighted when it came on the radio yesterday when I was driving with my 12 year old son. He was not impressed however as he is a bit too sensitive and the "Inbetweeny bits are hurting my ears Mum" was all that he could say.

I also love Gil Scott-Heron and was majorly dismayed to discover that he was playing Bestival this year. I didn't go. He was awesome apparently. I have played him to my children as I had to learn a three of his songs for a band I was auditioning for and I played the tracks over and over and over again on a drive to and from Portsmouth to North Yorkshire. Again they gave my son a headache, the baby loved all the soul tracks and the teen rather liked his toons and the lyrics.

The band told me I was good, but they decided to stick to being a four piece. I have taken that to mean I was not good enough. My daughter gave me a hug when I told her I didn't get in. My son said, "I can't believe we had to listen to all those songs for nothing."

He is a piano fan and always listens to Classic FM all night as he finds it soothing bless him.

I've got a ton of posts to write. Will definitely join in with this linky soon though. It's wicked :) xxx

Ah I had a friend who loved Jay Kay so much! I was never a big fan but thats how it goes. I love the diversity of music and the indivduality of tastes. So glad people are joining in with this!

Can honestly say that I've never really listened to this music, but sounds good so far.

I had forgotten about this band, but so pleased you have him on your list I have all of Jamiroquai's albums too! His mellowy songs are my favourites. I remember when he was going out with Denise Van Outen and I was a bit put out! Bx

I LOVE Jay Kay and Jamiroquai. I am going to see him live, again, this year in April. For the fifth time! I just can't get enough of him.
